Timeline Controls

The timeline is where you arrange, trim, and sequence all your clips.

Timeline Overview

Full timeline view

The timeline spans the full width at the bottom of the editor. It has three parts: the toolbar at top, the time ruler in the middle, and the clip tracks below.

The 'TIMELINE' label is at the far left. Next to it are the playback controls.

Playback Controls

Playback controls — play, stop, time display

The transport controls let you navigate your video:

Arrow/Play button — Play or pause the video

Stop button — Stop playback and return to start

Step forward — Move one frame forward

Time display — Shows current position / total duration

Timeline Tools

All timeline toolbar buttons

The toolbar has several editing tools:

Snap ✓ — Toggle snap-to-grid. When on, clips snap to beat markers and other clip edges

Overlap — Toggle overlap mode for transitions

Scissors ✂ — Split the selected clip at the playhead

2s / 3s / 5s — Quick-set clip duration

− / + — Zoom the timeline in/out

Expand arrows — Fit all clips or selected clip in view

Speaker icon — Mute/unmute audio preview

Time Ruler

Time ruler with second markings

The ruler shows time markings in seconds. Each tick represents one second. The numbers help you position clips precisely. The playhead (blue line) shows the current frame.

Clip Tracks

Clips appear as colored bars on tracks. Each track holds one clip at a time. The height of the bar represents the clip's duration. Drag clips left/right to reposition. Drag edges to trim.

Click a clip to select it — the Inspector panel updates to show its properties

Drag a clip up/down to move between tracks

Right-click for context menu options

The background clip is always on the bottom track

Keyboard Shortcuts

Speed up your workflow with these shortcuts:

Space — Play / Pause

Left/Right Arrow — Step one frame

Home — Go to start

End — Go to end

Delete — Remove selected clip

Ctrl+Z — Undo

Ctrl+Shift+Z — Redo

Ctrl+D — Duplicate selected clip
